SRINAGAR: Moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today appealed to the world community and financial institutions like Islamic Development Bank, Asian Development Bank and World Bank to extend support in rebuilding flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.
“I appeal to international community and globally acknowledged financial institutions like IDB, ADB and World Bank to extend financial support in reconstruction of Jammu and Kashmir which has been devastated by floods,” he said at a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid here.
He said the Centre should “rise above politics and on humanitarian grounds allow international aid agencies to reach out to the people hit by the worst ever floods”.
The Mirwaiz claimed that besides the loss of precious human lives, the floods have caused damage to public property worth up to Rs one lakh crore.
The Hurriyat chairman came down heavily upon the state government, accusing it of allowing construction of the residential structures in flood prone areas, hence breaking all the records of “mismanagement and corruption”.
He appealed to the general masses to extend all possible help to the flood victims and make unanimous efforts for their rehabilitation.
Cautioning those who are returning to their houses after water started receding at various places, the Mirwaiz asked people to strictly adhere to the health advisories issued by health experts.–PTI
