FREMONT, CA: In spite of bad whether, Holi festival was celebrated with great joy at the Sunnyvale Hindu Temple by devotees, priests, temple management and staff. Even with the light shower during Holi, over 1,000 people gathered at the annual Holi Celebrations on Saturday, February 28, at the Hindu Temple and Community Center in Sunnyvale, California. The event featured an assortment of colorful fun, Rang and Raas with lunch, and cultural performances and live DJ music all through the day.
It was surprising that people came out in large groups to enjoy Holi in the cold and rainy weather.
“Dealing with the rain was a huge challenge for us since our event was outdoors but everything turned out well,” Raj Bhanot, Co-founder and Treasurer, told India Post. Nonetheless, folks enjoyed playing with color and dancing to celebrate victory of good over evil.
Holi is the festival of color and it is celebrated over two days. The first day is Holika Dahan where people light a bonfire that signifies the destruction of evil. The second day is the actual fun part where people play with color and water.
For the past 18 years the Sunnyvale Temple has been celebrating Holi with enthusiasm and this year was no different. The festival was a great way for families to meet each other and put color on each other. It was also another venue where children displayed their talents during the cultural program. NetApp was the parking provider for more than a 1,000 vehicles and the Temple management made arrangements for shuttle buses.
