After nearly 10 films, New York born actor Prashantt Guptha is breaking into a new passion zone – singing. Initiating a campaign on social media, he is creating covers of old Hindi film songs and ghazals that reflect upon the adversities of our present day world and common issues of people. The covers are being launched on his new youtube and facebook channel called Prashn, meaning question.
Why #Prashn? Simply because it resonates with the basic campaign. He says, “We all have questions to which we seek answers. Whether from nature, God, our family, ourselves, our lovers(s), and destiny.
I am deliberately focusing on songs and ghazals that have their context in questions lyrically and so very relevant to the times today. My campaign is to stir not only an awakening to classic songs and showcase my singing ability, but to ignite a drive in people to put their questions forth into the universe and seek.”
His first song in this initiative is the legendary one from the 1952 classic Baiju Bawra, ‘oh duniya ke rakhwaale,’ sung by the great Mohd Rafi, composed by the great Naushad and penned by the equally great Shakeel Badayuni.
