CHICAGO: A US settled Indian American Perfusionist and ECMO Specialist Jyoti Dharod has brought laurels for her and for the community at large here when she successfully organized a second Knee Camp in Mumbai that involved no invasive surgery and yet brought near hundred percent results.

The three-day Knee Camp at Dahisar in Mumbai treated 82 patients involving 151 in and out procedures. Explaining the procedures essentially developed by her own efforts and research but with the help of other medical professionals, she mentioned there was a small additional innovation. It was blood plus bone marrow infusions. The Jyoti Dharod team of doctors, anesthetists and nurses would take “blood from hand and bone marrow from Tibia (near knee). The quantity involved was 50 cc which would be processed before being injected in the knees.”

The three-day camp beginning January 26 this year was organized by Mahavir Jyot and had lot of support from locals – Navneet High Tech, Dr Shetty, Dr Mrs Mandke, Dr Dixit, Prof. Upen Sawla, Krupali Shah, Sister Moni, Nemjibhai Gangar, Sunil Singh, Mahendrabhai Sangoi, Bharat Gala, Nitinbhai Satra, Manojbhai Shah, Jitubhai Dedhia, Pratiksha Khona.

The entire camp was done on no profit basis and private patients were charged to cover the basic costs. However, Jain gurus were not charged at all and the expenses were met by private donations. Medical professionals and volunteers rendered no cost services. Machine kit and medicines were taken from the US to rural areas in India.

The youngest patient treated was aged 42 while the oldest 88. There were Jain Gurus and Sadhvis too who were treated successfully at the Dahisar camp. Interestingly, there was no post treatment, infection complaint, nor was there post treatment complication reported by patients.
