Candlelight vigil pays tribute to Jayalalitha

img-webFREMONT, CA: India Post and AIADMK, USA, organized a candlelight vigil to paid tribute to the Late former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Selvi J.Jayalalitha on December 11 at Fremont Hindu temple from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.

Jayalalitha breathed her last at the Apollo Hospital in Chennai on Dec 5. ‘Amma’ to people in Tamil Nadu and AIADMK supporters, she was 68. She went from being a prolific filmstar to becoming a four-term Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Jayalalithaa’s death has marked the end of an iconic age in the political arena of Tamil Nadu and people are remembering her in their own ways. India Post newsweekly and AIADMK, USA had organized the vigil which was well attended by dignitaries and public at Fremont Hindu temple.

Consul General Ambassador Venkatesan Ashok, Dr. Romesh Japra, Publisher of India Post and Chairman of FIA, Rajesh Verma, President, FIA, Abu Khan, AIADMK, Anu Natarjan, Former Vice Mayor of Fremont, Vetri Selvi, Founder California Tamil Academy, Guna Pathakkam, BATM president, Jayakumar Muthazhagu, former president BATM, Arumugam, Former President BATM, Ramesh EC, BATM and Lena Kannappan, 8K Miles co-founder were the dignitaries who spoke at length on Amma’s political acumen, administrative ability, benefit schemes introduced by her and courageous attitude which made the entire world mourn her death.

Apart from the dignitaries, the vigil was well attended by over 200 Bay area locals mostly Tamilians, management team of Fremont Hindu temple and FIA.

Marzuka and Muafika recited Tamil verse on Amma and her schemes which have benefitted the people of Tamil Nadu. An enigmatic woman, astute politician, iron lady, a beloved leader, said Abu Khan of AIADMK USA. She was a fighter, so much so that she managed to hold together a disillusioned party, single-handedly.

However, it were her efforts following the tsunami that shook Tamil Nadu in 2004 and Chennai floods last December, that best highlighted her administrative skills, said Dr. Romesh Japra, Chairman, FIA and Publisher, India Post.
