Classical movie songs at Sangeet Bahar event

MILPITAS, CA: Sangeet Bahar, one of the three chapters of Sangeet Dhwani that promotes Hindustani Classial Music in the San Francisco Bay Area, hosted on Saturday May 13 an exciting music event that mesmerized music lovers, numbering 150, at the Milpitas Library Auditorium, Milpitas.

The classic movie songs that were performed by the select 16 singers belonged to the golden era of movie songs – 1940-1980. Some of these songs were from movies Baiju Bawra, Aandhi, Khamoshi. Himalay ke God me, Chirag, Guide, Woh Kaun Thi, Anpadh, Sujata, Kinara, Manzil, Love Story, Jahan Ara, etc.

Sangeet Bahar had selected 28 songs for the performing Award winning artists, who sang them melodiously, receiving thunderous applause from the audience present. All these songs were based on 15 classical ragas.

The Event was inaugurated by the Bay Area’s well-known Hindustani Classical vocalist Alka Bhatnagar, invited as the Chief Guest. While emphasizing that knowledge and practice of Ragas enhanced the melody of the songs, she performed some of the best 8-10 songs which also included a famous ghazal “Aaj Janeki zid Mat Karo” rendered by Farida Khanum.

While introducing the Chief Guest Alka Ji, Pradeep Joshi, Founder and President of Sangeet Dhwani observed that she was the winner of several prestigious Awards, one of which was “Ratna Award” presented by the Uttar Pradesh State of India appreciating her excellent contribution in popularizing Indian music, globally. Pradeep Joshi awarded a special plaque to her, recognizing her merits and also agreeing to inaugurate the event.

The Event concluded with Vote of thanks to Alka Ji and the artists for making the event a memorable one.
