Consultancy pact to restore Gadar Memorial signed

SAN FRANCISCO: The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has signed a consultancy agreement with M/s Iyer & Associates for the restoration of the Gadar Memorial Building on 5 Wood Street here.
Over 50 members of the Indian community, including prominent Sikh community elders, attended the signing ceremony at the historic building on March 6, according to a statement issued by the Consulate.

“The signing of the agreement is a milestone in the cherished dream of restoring the Gadar Memorial Building to its original turn-of-the-20th-century facade,” the statement said.
“Once restored, the building will house a museum displaying artefacts and documents from the period of the Gadar Movement, a library, a multi-purpose hall, as well as spaces and facilities for research scholars,” it stated.

“Once completed, we believe that the Gadar Memorial Building will be a fitting tribute to the courage, will and sacrifice of the martyrs of the Gadar Movement as well as those leaders of India’s independence struggle who were inspired by them.”
The Consulate also thanked the lndian-American community for their steadfast support for the project over the past few years and stated that it looked forward to the early completion of the restoration project.
