CHICAGO: The much awaited 5th Annual Awards Gala hosted by the 7th Congressional district’s Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force is being held on Sunday July 26 at Meadows Club, Rolling Meadows, and a northwest suburb of Chicago
This annual event honors Community heroes from different ethnic communities including India, Pakistan, African American, Nigeria, Korea, Armenia, China and Jordan.
Two front ranking community activists and professionals of Indian origin have bagged the honor this year along with half a dozen others. Dr & Mrs Bharat Barai are adjudged as Couple of the Year while Dr Abha Agrawal, Chief Medical Officer & C.O.O., Norwegian American Hospital is named Woman of the Year.
Other awardees are: Ms Nabella Rasheed from Pakistani American Community – Attorney of the Year, Ms Janice Kim from Korean American Community – Humanitarian of the Year and Professor Supriya Draviam from Ohio – Educator of the Year. Prof Supriya has an outstanding record as a teacher of English for the past 28 years at Cuyahoga Community College in Ohio
U.S. Congressman Danny K Davis’s Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force was established in 2010. The 7th Congressional district’s Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force (MEATF) plays an important role in promoting and protecting minorities. The members of Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force firmly believe that for our Congressman Danny Davis, the inclusion and promotion of minorities is not a political compulsion but a matter of deep faith.
The Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force’s Annual Awards Gala is a community initiative to honor individuals hailing from different ethnic communities, who have excelled in their respective professions and made significant contribution to society at large. The Gala also honor corporate organization/s and N.F.P. organization/s who have excelled in providing employment opportunities to minorities and/ serve the minorities in Chicagoland area.
The Annual Awards Gala attracts physicians, professionals and businessmen from all walks of life especially ethnic communities of India, Pakistan, Middle East, Palestine, Korea, China, Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Greece, Ukraine and African Americans.
Dr Tapas Dasgupta, Chairman, Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force, said that the Annual Gala showcases our community heroes and reinforces that the various ethnic communities play a significant and integral role in the progress of our society in all walks of life. Every year the Awards Jury receives nominations and also introduces new categories to ensure that diversity is well represented, he added.
Kishor Mehta, Executive Director, Multi Ethnic Advisory Task Force, said that the 7th Congressional District is home to a host of world class cultural and higher education institutions. The district includes downtown Chicago, home of Chicago’s financial exchanges (the Chicago Board of trade, Chicago
Mercantile Exchange, Chicago Board of Options Enterprise, Chicago Stock exchange) and is one of the world’s great International financial centers. The District includes 21 hospitals, dozens of clinics, 22 educational institutions of higher learning and many world class research institutions and medical schools, he added.
