Diwali celebrated with sweets, dances & sparklers

web42ST LOUIS: India Association of St. Louis celebrated Diwali Festival on November 3 at Mahatma Gandhi Center.
The event started at 3 pm with a social hour with number of food, jewelry and clothing stalls around. The cultural program started at 4 pm and was attended by more than 300 St. Louis residents representing different regions of India.
A colorful entertainment program was organized in which over 90 participants from different age groups took part. There were 23 items with a huge diversity of themes from classical, devotional to fast beat Bollywood music. The program included Annamacharya keertanas, Bharatnatyam Pushpanjali and Thillana, Koli and Lavani folk dances.
Then there was a little change in the mood with little kids dancing to songs like Salaam-e-Ishq, Bollywood remix and hip hops followed by teens and adults dancing to assortment of Bollywood medleys and remix. All these items kept the audience spellbound for over two hours and the event was a great success.
The program culminated with distribution of sweets and lighting of sparklers on the common grounds outside the center.
