CHICAGO: Dr C. L. Shashtri, 91, a former priest at well patronized Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville village and an ex principal of Sahajan and Swami College of Arts and Science in Ahmedabad, India, is no more.
He passed away on Sunday April 22 due to breathing problem triggered by a fall at his Wooddale residence a couple of weeks ago. He was conscious near his end and probably knew of his impending death since he had all his family members – sons, daughters, daughters in law and grand children – 28 in all – gathered around him a few days before his death to bless them individually.
He is survived by his six sons Rakesh, Devesh, Chandres, Lokesh, Manish and Tejash; six daughters in law including socially active Hema Shahstri whom he had dictated a short version his life story six weeks ago. Another interesting co- incidence is that his wife – Sanandiben – had died on the same day in 2010 but in India
Shashtriji was a Sanskrit scholar and also knew of Prakrit language. He was also known for his scholastic knowledge of Vedas and Jyotish Shashtra besides his mastery of Hindu rituals. His cremation took place at Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett on April 24. May God Rest his Soul in Peace.
