CHICAGO: Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago has slated celebrating India’s 67th Independence Day on a grand scale keeping up its tradition of the past few years

One of the highlights of the celebrations will be Gala Banquet on Friday August 9 at India House Banquet in Schaumburg to be followed up with India’s Independence Day grand Parade on Sunday August 11 in Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates.

FIA President Rita Singh said, “These celebrations would not mean much if we do not show our sympathy and concern for the people and devotees in Uttarakhand who suffered heavily due to storm and heavy rains in recent weeks. FIA is always in the forefront in helping victims of natural disasters and I would assure all possible help from my side to help efforts being made by some of our community groups and leaders for Uttarakhand victims. My view is that the extent of this natural calamity is not fully understood here and it should be our effort collectively to create awareness not only among our own community members but even within the mainstream society.”

Under the leadership of Rita Singh and its Executive Board, this event is planned to be the best ever for FIA. One unique attraction of this event will be the presence of a popular Bollwood actress Minissha Lamba, who is coming to Chicago specially to attend FIA Banquet Dinner and Grand Parade. The Gala Banquet on August 9 is expected to start sharp at 7:30pm with social hours followed by formal program for the evening. The evening will include fashion show by Charisma Boutique, colorful cultural program and special menu Independence Day buffet dinner.

When it comes to banquet food, no one can come close to India House. Though Gala Banquet is a ticketed event, Grand Parade admission will be free. Rita Singh is expecting around 1000 people to attend both these events of great significance and importance to each and every Indian.

Minissha Lamba needs no introduction. One of Bollywood’s latest and most popular actresses, Minissha Lamba is originally from Delhi. She started her career in Bollywood in 2005 with her debut movie ‘Yahaan’. Some of her popular movies are Corporate, Honeymoon Travels, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Kidnap, Well Done Abba, Bheja Fry-2, Joker, Zilla Ghaziabad, etc. She also appeared in music video for Himesh Reshammiya’s song Tera Surroor from the album Aap Kaa Surroor which became very popular.

Minissha Lamba is expected to attend both Gala Banquet Dinner event on August 9 at India House as well as India’s Independence Day Grand Parade on August 11 in Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates.

She is very hopeful that these dignitaries will take time out of their busy schedule to grace this occasion with their kind presence.

Some of the main attractions of this year’s event include Runway Fashion show, patriotic and scintillating Dance and Singing Performances, Keynote addresses, Red carpet welcome, to name a few. FIA represents the interests of over two hundred thousand Indian Americans living in and around Chicago land area and Rita Singh and her dynamic Executive Board appreciates huge support from the community.
