Five Asian Americans honored for service to community

CHICAGO: Asian Chronicle, USA held its 12th Annual Distinguished & Exemplary Awards 2013 at the Four Points in Chicago Sheraton at O’Hare Airport honoring a cross section of community activists with special awards.

Five Asian Americans from the Indian subcontinent were recognized for their services to the community in different fields. They are Dr Austin Prabhu and Terry Prabhu, Bala Ghimre, Dr Amrajit Singh, Zehra Qudri, Nadirshah & Sehr Ali family and Qasim & Nasim Gillani family.

Dr. Austin Prabhu & Terry were given Lifetime Asian Humanitarian Couple Award, 2013 for their involvement in Lions Clubs International. Exemplary Civic Service Award 2013 went to Bala Ghimere of Curry House. Asian Humanitarian 2013 Awards went to Zehra Quadri and Dr Amarjit Singh, among others. Asian Model Awards went to Nadirshah & Sehr Ali family and Qasim & Nasim Gillani family from Bangladesh.

Friends of Asian Americans 2013 award went to George VanDusen, Mayor of Skokie. All the awardees received the US President’s Call to Service Volunteer Awards 2013.

Asian Chronicle USA is a television program on public access cable aired every Saturday at 5:30 pm on Channels 19 and 35 (N & NW Chicago suburbs), and every Tuesday at 10:00 pm on Channel 19 (SW Chicago suburbs). It is produced and directed by a professionally-trained crew extending their services pro-bono. It has gotten recognition from the Office of the Governor for its excellent programming and professionalism.

Every November, it honors exemplary Asians, philanthropic or humanitarians, who have paved the way or have made significant contributions for the betterment of the lives of the less fortunate, the impoverished and the under-served. It also recognizes exceptional young professionals and youths who are leading the path of today’s generation and those of the future.
