FREMONT: Fremont Hindu Temple became the go to place for Indian community this Holi. The temple celebrated Holi Dahan (burning) on Saturday, March 15 and close to 7000 Indian community members congregated at Fremont Hindu temple on Sunday, March 16, to celebrate and wish each other with Holi greetings.
Devotees filled every inch of temple premises and their cars occupied all streets in mile long neighborhood. It seemed as if complete temple center was inundated with a rainbow of colors. It was difficult to recognize faces as they were all covered in multitude of colors.
Temple campus became one huge family with people applying color to each other and making friends. It also became an opportune occasion to renew and make new friendships. People from all over Bay area came and participated in the festivities. Many dignitaries and community leaders also participated. Devotees were offered a scrumptious preeti bhoj (lunch) to refresh and reenergize for day long activities.
Participants were very enthusiastic and played with colors and danced away to the tunes of hit Holi songs. One of the devotees, Deepika Sharma said “This was an excellent opportunity to teach our kids about Indian culture”. Shakila said “It was colorful, joyous, fun filled Holi and mainly safest for kids and family. Thank you for the whole Fremont Temple Team. My daughter’s smile was priceless.”
The day started at 11am with over 50 cultural performances by kids and adults alike. There was an amazing show of cultural programs reflecting Indian culture and heritage. Many dance groups from Bay area showcased their talented troupes. Festivities went on till 5pm.
