FREMONT, CA: The team of Yours Humanly, a California based non-profit organization, has taken the challenge upon itself to give the gift of education to millions of underprivileged children around the world. By bridging the gap, between the fortunate and the not-so-fortunate, and giving the underprivileged a chance to color their futures through education, it is determined to instill in these children a sense of pride, confidence and freedom. For the 2014 school year, the organization is focusing its efforts in parts of India, Nepal, Cambodia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and South Africa.
Yours Humanly sponsors education for the underprivileged children starting from kindergarten all the way through high school and also contributes towards their books and uniforms. “Our vision is to work towards creating a world where all children, regardless of their age, gender, race, color, ethnicity, caste, religion, national origin, and physical, mental or financial ability, will have a fair chance at getting an education at a credible educational institution,” said Sunny Singh, the founder and executive director of the organization.
To give every child an opportunity to learn English and computers is also high on the priority list of the Yours Humanly team. According to them a good command over the English language and being computer literate is a must in order to succeed in today’s fast paced world.
“In Asian countries, a large majority of the schools in rural areas do not offer English and Computer Science as a part of their curriculum. This puts the students from those schools at a big competitive disadvantage once they graduate.
We are working towards placing English and Computer teachers, and the necessary computer equipment, in public schools that have somewhat of an infrastructure to support them. For children whose schools do not have a proper infrastructure to support such a program, we plan to invest in opening stand alone Yours Humanly centers. These centers will offer free English and Computer classes during evening hours and on weekends,” said Singh.
Yours Humanly raises funds through individual donations, fund raisers, corporate pledges, and government and foundation grants. Its goal is to raise around $50,000 between now and March 2014 before the school year commences. It also wants to raise over $250,000 next year, as it plans to expand its program into three additional countries by the year 2015.
“I believe that if each one of us, who are blessed and privileged, supported one child by giving him/her the education he/she deserves, the world would be a far better place,” said Santosh Khatri, director of operations Cambodia.
Yours Humanly believes that many underprivileged families go through a constant struggle between whether to make the children work (or beg) for food, or to send them to school.
“Motivating the families of these children is a big challenge we face every day. Parents, when they are not sure where their next meal is going to come from, do not understand the concept of sending their child to school. They do not realize that when you send a child to school you not only change the life of that one child but also the lives of his future generations,” said Vipin Kumar, director of operations India.
Through its team of motivators who talk to these families, Yours Humanly hopes to convince a large number of parents to send their children to school.
To support Yours Humanly in their efforts and to help them reach their goal of raising $50,000 before March 2014, please donate generously. They are a 501(c) (3) charitable organization and your donations may be tax deductible.
