GOPIO-LA Organizes Annual Diabetes Summit

GOPIO–LA hosted “Diabetes Awareness – Prevention Is Key,” on December 06, 2025 at a Banquet Hall of Tandoor Restaurant in City of Orange.

It was a vibrant community program focused on preventing diabetes and heart disease. The event combined modern medical insights with ancient Indian wisdom, mindfulness, and holistic health strategies, empowering attendees to take charge of their well-being.

The seminar was chaired by GOPIO Life member and active member of GOPIO-LA chapter, Aparna Hande, RN, MSHCA. Dr. Asmath Noor, DD, served as Co-Chair and Master of Ceremonies, who received widespread appreciation for her exceptional stage presence and seamless coordination that insured smooth transitions, strong audience connection, and timely execution of the program.

Dr. Asmath Noor formally introduced distinguished GOPIO–LA leadership, international members, and community dignitaries.

The seminar featured an esteemed panel of medical professionals and subject-matter experts who shared practical, evidence-based, and culturally relevant insights:

  • Dr. Renu Joshi, Endocrinologist (Diabetes & Metabolism), on preventive strategies and metabolic health
  • Dr. Hema Ramkumar, Retina Specialist, emphasizing the importance of regular eye screening for diabetic patients
  • Vandana Sinha, Quantum Energy Expert, presenting holistic approaches to overall well-being
  • Dinesh Kulkarni, Director of Corporate Development, introduced Kannact Starlight, a comprehensive, technology-enabled, and culturally sensitive diabetes care model
  • Yatri Shukla, Professor and Food Scientist, spoke on the nutritional value of millets and sharing her inspiring personal experience in helping her daughter reverse gestational diabetes

In addition, Saahas for a Cause, a non-profit organization helping the needy, presented a powerful and engaging skit that creatively reinforced the message of prevention and healthy/Safe living.

Audience participation throughout the program was outstanding. Attendees gained valuable, actionable knowledge related to nutrition, lifestyle modifications, early screening, holistic care, and community-based support. Participating vendors were also highly engaged and successfully shared information about their services.

The event concluded with a complimentary diabetes-friendly lunch, providing a warm and relaxed setting for networking and continued informal discussions between speakers and participants.

Overall, the seminar was exceptionally successful.  Participants left feeling informed, inspired, and empowered, equipped with practical tools for diabetes prevention and healthier living. Reflecting the community’s appreciation for GOPIO–LA’s dedicated service, 15 new members joined the organization, supported by a special 25% membership discount offered during the event.

The program strongly reinforced the message that prevention is the key and showcased GOPIO–LA’s continued commitment to community health, education, and service.
