PHAGWARA, Punjab: Alliance of Sikh Organizations (ASO), a conglomerate of 30 Sikh bodies, and Darbar-e- Khalsa, formed a human chain here along national highway 1 at Sugar mill crossing to protest against the life term sentence awarded by Nawanshahr court on February 5 to three Sikh youths for possessing allegedly incriminating Sikh literature, books and pictures of Sikh martyrs for propagating and inciting people to establish Khalistan.
It was led jointly by Sukhdev Singh Khalsa, ASO’s Spokesman and Bhai Harjinder Singh Majhi, Head of Darbar-e- Khalsa. Representatives of Muslims, led by Punjab Haj Committee member Sarvar Gulam Sabba and Dalit bodies, led by Harbhajan Suman, President Punjab Ambedkar Sena Moolnivasi, joined the Sikh protesters.
Sikh religious leaders, including Mohan Singh Gandhi, President Nimmawala Gurdwara managing Committee, also joined.
The peaceful protest lasted for an hour. However, traffic on the highway continued as usual as the protesters stood on the berm at one side of the road.
Additional Sessions judge of Nawanshar Randhir Verma had awarded on February 5 life term sentence to three Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) activists Arwinder Singh (29) of Nawanshar, Surjit Singh (27) of Gurdaspur and Ranjit Singh (29) of Kaithal in Haryana for waging war against state.
