Nanda-Devi-Raj-Jat (1)DEHRADUN: India Post has issued a commemorative stamp on Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, a pilgrimage held every 12 years through the picturesque hills of Chamoli district in the state.

Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna issued the commemorative stamp on the yatra and launched its first-day cover here last evening.

Speaking at the event, Bahuguna said the yatra not only represents the cultural identities of the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the state but also plays an important role in weaving them together.

Praising India Posts for releasing a commemorative stamp on the yatra, Bahuguna said this would effectively advertise the event widely across the country.

Held every 12 years through the picturesque hills of Chamoli district, the yatra was originally scheduled to be organized from August 29 but was cancelled in view of the massive damage caused by the June calamity along its route.

The Chief Minister said the whole nation is proud of the people of Uttarakhand who rose above their own personal woes during the June calamity to help stranded pilgrims.

Promising all help to the affected people, Bahuguna said no stone will be left unturned to restore the glory of the disaster-ravaged state at the earliest.-PTI
