WASHINGTON DC: India’s Republic Day was celebrated in Washington DC in the morning of January 26 at the Embassy premises. Prior to the event, Ambassador Nirupama Rao paid homage and floral tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

At the Republic Day celebrations, the Ambassador unfurled the National Flag followed by the singing of the National Anthem. Thereafter the Ambassador addressed the guests and read out the President’s Address to the Nation. This was followed by singing of Indian patriotic songs in several Indian languages. Over 250 community members attended the celebrations.
