CHICAGO: The Kerala Association of Chicago celebrated 41st Christmas and New Year on December 30 at the Hinsdale Community House in the presence of community leaders, elected officials and officials of other cultural associations of Chicago land.

Stephanie Kifowit State Representative, Dr. Gopal Lalmalani Mayor of Oakbrook and Attorney Sadia Gul Covert, DuPage County Board Member were among the special guests.

Celebrations started with Indian and American National Anthems and lighting of the lamp. Trustees chairperson Dr. Paul Cherian welcomed the audience and announced the recipients of KAC’s Kerala flood relief project

. KAC president Dr George Palamattam addressed the invited guests giving the real meaning of what Jesus did.

 

Also present at the event were Nafees Rahman from Secretary of State Jesse White’s office, Gladson Varghese GOPIO Chicago Chairman, Attorney Steve Crifase, Dhithu Bhagwakar, a candidate for the Schaumburg Village Trustee and Sunil Shah, founder President FIA Schaumburg.

Rev Joseph Kappilumakkal was the Chief Guest. He talked about history and importance of Christmas. KAC’s vibrant youth performed as Santa (Philip Nangachiveettil), Salvio Benoy and Sophia Zakar as MCs and a bunch of young buds as carol singers. Bristow, Sreeraj, and Shaan with their beautiful songs and Serafin, Manesha, Betsy with their dances made cultural program a memorable event. The celebrations ended with the vote of thanks by Secretary Rosemary Kolencherry.

KAC was founded in 1976 as a social and cultural organization for the benefit of Keralites living in the Chicago area in Chicagoland. It was founded to promote and sustain the artistic, cultural and other unique values of Keralites that transcend their religious and economic background.

Whether Hindus, Christians or Muslims it represents all Keralites believing whatever values were instilled by forefathers to make them successful in this country. One of the goals of the Association is to pass on those inherited attributes to the coming generations.
