Kick off held for 3rd International Yoga Day

CHICAGO: The City of Naperville has announced its support to the celebrations of the third International Day of Yoga and would be issuing a special proclamation declaring the Day by the City as International Yoga Day.

The Consulate General of India in collaboration with the City of Naperville has planned a grand celebration of the Yoga Day on Saturday June 24, at Naperville Yard, 1603 Legacy Circle, Naperville.

A Kick Off ceremony for the event was held on Wednesday May 17 in the Consulate premises. A good number of community organizations, established yoga and spiritual centers, business community and members of the media attended the event wherein Shri O.P.Meena, Consul, welcomed the guests.

During Kick Off ceremony, Mrs. Neeta Bhushan, Consul General, addressed the gathering and shared information with participants on celebration of 3rd International Day of Yoga. Emphasizing the importance of the Yoga Day, she termed it as the pet-project of Prime Minister Modi and of Ambassador Navtej Sarna as well.

The Consul General shared the following important details of the program: The official program will be from 10 am to 12 noon followed by the Community fest. An array of activities will follow the official program comprising of community fest and cultural activities till 5 pm

In the run up to the celebrations, various temples, community organizations and Yoga Centers will be organizing the stand-alone activities which include 2nd Kick Off ceremony at Sri Venkateshwara Swami Balaji Temple on June 4, 3rd Kick Off ceremony at Sant Nirankari Mission on June 11 and the 4th Kick Off ceremony in Oak Brook. In addition, many satellite events have been arranged all across.

The Community organizations in Chicagoland supporting the event include both Federation of Indian Associations, Naperville Indian Community outreach, Sant Nirankari Mission, Gujarati Samaj of Chicago, Gandhi Samaj of Chicago, iHope SEWA, Metropolitan Asian Family Services, Bharatiya Seniors of Chicago, Punjabi American Organization, Chicago, Andhra Association, Chicago Indo-US Lions Club, GOPIO Chicago Chapter, Association of Rajasthanis in America, Eye on India, BAPS Shri Swami Narayan Mandir, World Hindu Council among others.

Among the Sponsors are Air India, State Bank of India, SR International, Sahil, National Bankcard and Adbhut Entertainment.

Consul General made a vehement appeal to the community to come and join in order to make the event a mega success.

The Consulate is expecting the participation of several local dignitaries and elected officials in the inaugural ceremony of the International Yoga Day.
