Odissi dance program held

SANTA CRUX, California: Odissi is an internationally recognized Classical Dance of India .It cannot be learned in a day but giving the opportunity to know the Dance form was an excellent idea of Annapurna Pandey who introduced AND organized this program in her class at University California Santa Cruz, California . Professor Loki Pandey was also present to encourage them.

Students of the anthropology department (theater art) got a chance to learn the dance form from eminent dancer and choreographer , Dipti Mallik , the Founder Director of Nritya Tara School Of Odissi dance, Dublin, California.

She delivered a lecture on Odissi, its form and existence. She not only demonstrated the basics of Odissi such as postures, hand and feet gestures and expressions but also taught a small item called Mangalacharan, showing how each movement when coordinated together, forms a beautiful and elegant dance piece.

She concluded the day by passing on the knowledge and importance of a folk dance. Those attending were enthralled and shared a leg to the beats of the famous folk dance from eastern Odisha called Sambalpuri folk Rangabati.
