CHICAGO: Gandhi Memorial Trust and the Consulate General of India has planned a peace and harmony concert on Sunday, October 4 from 11am to 12:30 pm, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of installation of Gandhi statue in the Heritage Park, Skokie, a northside suburb of Chicago
Ten years ago, a helicopter hovered over a gathering of 1,500 rejoicing people on the McCormick Blvd. in Skokie and showered rose petals on the inauguration of Gandhi memorial. Since then, members of the Indian community have been regularly celebrating Gandhi Jayanti at the memorial in Skokie.
This year, to offer respect to Gandhiji and remember his message of peace, Trustees of Gandhi memorial Trust and Consulate General of India have decided to host an event underlying the basic tenets of Mahatma’s teaching – peace and harmony. Members of the community at large are invited to join in the celebrations. The statue is located on McCormick Boulevard between Dempster and Church Street in Skokie.
In order to facilitate smooth sailing of the day, McCormick Blb between Demmpster and Church Street will be closed from 10 am to 2 pm. Entrance for parking is from the Church Street only to Mcdaniel Ave at Jeh Elementary School.
Those with Handicapped License plates will be allowed to park on McCormick Blvd close to Gandhi Statue. These cars will enter from Church Street only into Mccormick Blvd.
