NORWALK, LA: “Corruption is a burning problem in India. It is like a termite in the economic system. If not taken care of it right now it will ruin the country and we shall have to repent for it,” Said Prof. Keshav Patel, one of the organizer of the rally to support Anna Hazare team on indefinite fast at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, India. The rally was organized on July 28 on Pioneer Blvd, Norwalk, Los Angeles.
Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai have been on fast from July 25 and Anna Hazare joined them on 29, to awaken the Government. NRIs from abroad are supporting them whenever the movement starts in India.
Demonstrators of Anna Hazare group of Los Angeles and People for Loksatta, CA started gathering from 11am on parking plot, near State Bank of India, 183 Street & Pioneer Blvd, Norwalk City, Los Angeles. Last year more than 300 demonstrators gathered for the rally. This time there were fewer people but the presence of 30% women was significant.
“The success of any movement gears up when women take part in the movement or demonstration,” said Vaishali Doshi, reporter for TV Asia.
During the gathering, demonstrators chanted slogans like: “Stop corruption & Save India,” “Aek Dhakka or do …. Bhrashtachar ko Tod do.” “Bharat Mata ki Jay and Bring back black money.”
The PFL team who last year successfully completed Dandi March II & Rally has played a significant role this time. Hari Atluri and Varma Dantuluri gave their messages to TV Asia.
The rally with a banner of Annaji, placards of demands and chanting slogans started their march in formation of three in a row. When on walk way of Pioneer Blvd, it remained well organized and controlled, keeping enough care of pedestrians’ safety and comfort.
The demonstrators stopped at every intersection for several minutes to demonstrate and chant slogans. The rally ended at 2:15 pm on the same parking plot, with participants sitting down and praying for good health of all those who are on fast.
A memorandum of demands addressed to the President of India and the Prime Minister of India was signed by the demonstrators. It will be sent through proper channels of ambassador of India in California.
