Americans4Hindus (A4H) Highlights Shared Vision of Civic Engagement, Service to Humanity and “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”
NEW YORK: RSS Chief “Mohan Bhagwat“ delivered a powerful and thought-provoking address at a dinner reception held at The Pierre, A Taj Hotel, overlooking Central Park in New York City, before an intimate gathering of approximately one hundred passionate and committed Hindu leaders representing diverse professions, organizations and communities from across the United States.
In his wide-ranging remarks, Bhagwat emphasized the importance of communicating more openly and effectively about the service-oriented work of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He spoke about embracing modern communications including mainstream and social media, public programs and community events to broaden awareness, expand engagement and serve communities beyond Hindu society as well.
A central theme of his address was the importance of Hindus taking pride in their identity, traditions and time-tested civilizational values. He encouraged Hindus not to be apologetic or hesitant about identifying themselves as Hindus, but rather to share the universal principles of Dharma with confidence, humility and a spirit of service.
He invoked the timeless Hindu principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” the world is one family and emphasized that Hindu values should inspire service not merely to one’s own community, but to humanity at large.
Bhagwat further stressed that Hindus living around the world must work to strengthen their Karmabhoomi the land where they live, work, raise their families and contribute to society. Economic and professional success alone, he suggested, is not sufficient; communities must also build lasting relationships, participate in civic life and contribute meaningfully to the welfare of the broader society.
Drawing lessons from history, he referred to the experience of Indians in Uganda during the Idi Amin era, when many were expelled and forced to leave behind businesses and assets. The example underscored the importance of building not only economic prosperity, but also social bonds, civic engagement and meaningful participation in the societies in which Hindus live.
Bhagwat also outlined five simple practices that Hindu individuals and families can incorporate into everyday life to strengthen families and become catalysts for positive change. Among them was the simple but powerful practice of families gathering regularly even once a week to discuss Hindu traditions, principles, values, narratives, community responsibilities and issues affecting society. Such conversations, he emphasized, can help transmit values across generations while inspiring greater service to humanity.
His message encouraging Hindus to participate not only in careers and businesses but also in civic, public and policy affairs strongly resonated with the mission of Americans4Hindus (A4H).
