CERRITOS: SAHARA (South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency) held its 32nd Annual Gala at the Sheraton Cerritos last Sunday, September 24, 2023. This year’s theme was empowerment through education. Over the course of the evening, SAHARA raised a record $750,000 to go towards supporting its mission of providing support and services for victims of Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse.
Over the course of the last year, SAHARA has served 2,460 individuals (up 37% from the previous year) by providing wrap-around services including:
Housing (SAHARA owns and operates two shelter facilities)
- Legal Aid
- Mental Health Therapy
- Citizenship
- Public Benefits
- Education
- Community Engagement and Empowerment
- Help and Referral Line (used almost 4,000 times this year)
“We endeavor to make a difference one life at a time by providing wrap-around programs for victims of domestic violence and elder abuse. Many of our clients come to us with nowhere else to go and we provide them a safe place to grow and find true wellness of being,” stated, Executive Director, James Jones.
The South Asian Helpline and Referral Agency (SAHARA) is a non-profit organization, established in 1990, that provides services to survivors of all forms of abuse in the South Asian community by providing them with culturally sensitive and linguistically specific services. Since its inception, SAHARA has provided wrap-around services to over 11,000 members of our community.
