Santa Clara appoints Batra as City Manager

SANTA CLARA, CA: With over 13 years of experience with the City of Santa Clara, the City Council has unanimously appointed the Director of Public Works/City Engineer, Rajeev Batra as the long-term Acting City Manager. The announcement follows the formal acceptance of the resignation of City Manager, Julio Fuentes last month.

“On behalf of the entire City Council, we thank Assistant City Manager/Economic Development Officer, Ruth Shikada for her willingness to step in as Acting City Manager while the Council went through the appointment process for the long-term Acting City Manager,” said Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor.

Of Mr. Batra, she said “not only does he have the experience and exceptional qualifications to be the Acting City Manager but he will be able to lead the City through a time of transition where we will come together as a Council and staff to work towards building a bright future for Santa Clara.”

Mr. Batra who, as Director of Public Works, led his department to deliver programs and projects successfully over the past 13 years, such as Northside Library, Mission City Ballroom at the Convention Center, and Fire

Stations 2, 3 and 4, along with other infrastructure projects. In addition, Mr. Batra was integral with the planning, design and construction of Levi’s® Stadium and is involved with the review of all substantial development

projects in Santa Clara such as Santa Clara Square, City Place and City-wide infrastructure improvement projects.

Mr. Batra is married to Anu Batra for the last 37 years and they have grown twin boys. He looks forward to working with the Council and community to continue to make Santa Clara a great place to live and work.
