Seniors celebrate India Day in Addison

CHICAGO: The Bharatiya Senior Citizens of Chicago celebrated 67th Independence Day of India at Shri Nathji Haveli in Addison, a northwest Chicago suburb.

More than 275 members and guests participated in the celebration that lasted over three hours. Kathleen Willis (Representative of Illinois from District 77), Chintal Mehta (President), Dipal Mehta (CCP Supervisor) from Care for Soul, were among the guests.
The program began with Ganesh Vanadna by Joint Secretary Rakshikaben Anjaria and welcome address by BSC Secretary Pursottam Pandya. Rakshikaben and Rajendra Ajaria gave brief information about Independence of India, Janmashtami and Raksha Bandhan.
President of BSC Haribhai Patel offered India Day greetings to all members. One of the highlights was a play where Shivabhai Patel performed as Mahatma Gandhi, Shantaben as Kastur Ba, Ramsingh Parmar as Veer Bhagat Singh, Rajendra Anjaria as Pandit Nehru and Thakorbhai Patel as Dr Rajendra Prasad.

Janmashtami play was performed by committee member Ramsing Parmar. Two small girls performed Radha song from Hindi movie Student of the Year. Urja Patel performed dance Ala Ripu.

Members also celebrated Raksha Bandhan. Vandna Jhingan, often called Jhansi Ki Rani of Chicagoland, tied Rakhi to all members.
Kathleen Willis gave information about Seniors program, Home health Program, Medicaid and Social Security. BSC President Haribhai Patel announced names of members whose birthday fell in July and August. They were presented with flowers. Shivabhai Patel, Vice President of BSC, proposed a vote of thanks.
