LA PALMA, CA: The Indian American community in Southern California gathered in large numbers to celebrate Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti at a grand cultural event organized by SMAP (Shivaji Maharaj America Parivar) at Kennedy High School in La Palma. The event drew a full-house audience and highlighted a blend of traditional heritage and modern technological innovation.
Unlike typical cultural programs, organizers emphasized that Shiv Jayanti celebrations are designed to be revitalizing and spiritually uplifting experiences—aimed at inspiring attendees while also serving as educational and informative platforms for the community.
The spectacular cultural showcase as performers bring to life the strength of character and wisdom of strategy drawn from Rama and Krishna—the great values that inspired the rise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, one of India’s greatest leaders.
The event started with, Dhol Tasha thunderous, high energy and awakening beats and rhythmic ensemble are traditional and integral part of events like Shiv Jayanti. Upbeat and uplifting Dhol Tasha performance was presented by Sandeep Katre and his group

Mr. Kulwant Singh; Head of Chancery LA, La Palma Mayor Mr. Nitesh Patel; Councilman Mr. Vikesh Patel; Councilwoman Ms. Zeel Ahir; Yorba Linda Councilmember Mr. Shivender Singh; Cerritos Mayor Mr. Frank Aurelio Yokoyama; and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Mr. Pat Patnaik. Their presence reflected the growing recognition of such cultural initiatives within the broader civic landscape.
Ashok Madan, Chairman greeted dignitaries, city leaders, committee members and special guests honoring their participation followed by Ms. Aparna Hande delivered an inspirational message to audience, “We gather not just as an audience, but as a united community inspired by a timeless legacy of courage, vision, and self-respect. Shivaji Maharaja’s life stands as a shining example of fearless leadership, unwavering determination, and the power of strong values that continue to guide and inspire us even today” and “Let us carry forward the legacy of courage, unity, and self-respect in all that we do”..
Vijay Patil, founder and Global president of the organization presented an overview of SMAP mission promoting Unity, Leadership and Community services using heroes of India as Role models. He briefly expressed organization’s vision of future growth and projects promoting youth involvement and developing leadership skills.
Vilas Jadhav, EVP and Ashutosh Khisti, EVP acknowledged the generosity of financial support by Jaywant Nitturkar, Gajendra Sawant, Jagdish Gaikwad and Tilve family as the key supporters and mention that we had over 40 patron patrons, organizers and community leaders supporting this grand celebration..
A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of two theatrical productions based on the Ramayana and the life and teachings of Lord Krishna. The performances were distinguished by their integration of artificial intelligence–driven visual effects, combined with elaborate stage design and storytelling, creating an immersive experience for the audience.

The evening also included a traditional dhol-tasha performance followed by a palki procession, adding a devotional and ceremonial dimension to the celebration. Organizers expressed appreciation for the contributions of volunteers, performers, and community supporters, noting that the strong turnout reflected growing engagement and unity within the Indian American diaspora
In addition to the performances, the program featured essay-writing and fort-building competitions, encouraging youth participation and fostering creativity, historical awareness, and cultural understanding. Organizers also paid respectful tribute to Sardar Vallabhabi Patel’s 150th birth anniversary acknowledging honoring him as a great fearless leader who laid the foundation of an integrated India uniting hundreds of princely states and people.
SMAP team delivered a meaningful and historic celebration that based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals to our children and our community. Event organizers objective was to connect generations by presenting cultural narratives in innovative formats that resonate with younger audiences while preserving traditional values.
Cultural organizations like SMAP continue to play a key role in preserving heritage while adapting to contemporary modes of expression, setting a precedent for future community-driven initiatives and delivered a meaningful and historic celebration, based on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s ideals to our children and our community.
