CHICAGO: The Hindu Mandir of Lake County celebrated the birth anniversary of Sant Goswami Tulsi Das, the author of Ram Charitmanas with utmost gaiety and joy.

Tulsidas Ji, a medieval poet-saint known for his devotion for Lord Rama and Hanuman, is among the most respected literary figures in Indian history. More than 100 devotees from different Indian communities gathered at the temple to revel in the event and listen to the discourse on ‘Sant Tulsi Das Ji and his work’ given by our well-known Kathakar and speaker Pt Anil Joshi as a of tribute.

The program was started by him with Lord Ram Parivar, Hanuman Ji and Sant Tulsi Das Ji pujan. Special Archanas were also performed for the welfare and prosperity of the society on this occasion. Melodious devotional Bhajans were sung by Sangeetha Singh, Rita Patel, Atul Soni, and Avinash Kotagi. Prabhakar Joshi narrated to the devotees about the life of Sant Tulsi Das Ji. President Harsh Kumar honored a group of young and senior volunteers for their services and support to the temple.

Finally, Pt Joshi spoke about the ‘importance and relevance of Ram Charitmanas in our lives and paid tributes to this great Sant by enlightening devotees about his work. This great Holy Scripture, teaches us how to develop and maintain our social, familial, and individual relationships in life. The characters in this Scripture are powerful and act as role models to teach and inspire us to build our own personality and identification in life.

Family is a basic unit of a society. A good and cultured family becomes a role model to the whole world. Sant Tulsi Das Ji very cleverly depicts the ideal roles of a father, mother, step mother, son, brothers, and wives, said Pt. Joshi Ji. He also said that the role of parents, teachers, and especially mother is great in making children cultured and become responsible citizens. Selfishness, greed, egoism, superiority-complex and lack of tolerance and sacrificing nature for others’ happiness ruins the close ties between members of the family
Pt. Joshi added that every speaker on any Indian holy scriptures, Vedas, and Puranas concludes their speech by quoting some examples from Rama Charitmanas as it comprises facts and information about any situation that happens in our lives. In addition, he said that for any great nation, the cordial, reliable, and trustworthy relationship between ruler and citizens is important.
After Maha Mangalarati was performed with tunefully singing choir, a delicious, home-made, satvik Prasadam prepared by Smt. Kiran Joshi Ji (Rajalakshmi) and others was served to all devotees. This warm, educational, and enlightening evening was enjoyed by everyone.
