Two-day mega event to celebrate India Day in New York area

NEW YORK: The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chapters of New York City & New England and the Indo-American Community with many other partner organizations of New England will be celebrating a two-day mega event to commemorate the diamond Jubilee and the historic event of 75th Independence Day of India on August 14 -15, 2021, at Rhode Island State House.

Every year on August 15, Indians all over the world celebrate Independence Day – the day to rejoice in the glory of what our country has been able to achieve but also a day to remember our freedom fighters and the sacrifices of all the people who fought to free the nation from British Rule. In addition, to pay due recognition to all leaders who helped the county move forward and become one of the most powerful countries in the world – educationally, technologically, politically, militarily and economically.

The mega gala celebrations will begin on the night of Saturday, August 14, with the Indian tricolor lighting of the Rhode Island State House Building ‘Capitol Hill’ from 8:30 p.m., until 5:00 a.m. Enjoy the beautiful display of tricolor on the dome. All are welcomed to join us outside the building for a spectacular music performance as the building lights up with the beautiful Indian tricolor.

On Sunday, August 15, around 8:30 a.m., the Honorable Governor Daniel McKee of Rhode Island will grace the occasion as the chief invitee. The program will start around 9:00 a.m. by first singing the National Anthems and the inauguration of the event by the Honorable Governor of Rhode island Daniel McKee unfurling and hoisting of the American and Indian national flags and paying tribute to the two largest democracies of the world, followed by his brief address to the audience. There will be a brief formal meet and greet of the esteemed invitees and dignitaries.

FIA has also recognized some senior citizens and young volunteers, who have made significant contributions through their community service. They will receive awards by His Excellency Daniel McKee. Before the cultural program, there will be a short refreshment break to relish the Indian and local snacks.

The cultural event will showcase the art and culture of India with different exciting activities like dance performances, melody performances. This event is an ideal place for the whole family to kick-off the holiday season with shopping, live entertainment and delicious cuisines and make your experience unique and entertaining.
