Two Romanians arrested for ATM fraudINDORE, Madhya Pradesh: Two Romanian nationals have been arrested here in connection with an alleged ATM fraud in various cities of the country, police said.

The duo, Adrian Liviu (30) and Cornel Constantine (27), were arrested on the basis of inputs provided by the Kolkata Police, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Amrendra Singh.

The two were handed over to a Kolkata Police team which has taken them to West Bengal, Singh said.

Cases related to the fraud were reported from various cities, including Kolkata, where an FIR has been lodged.

Another senior officer said the Romanians were allegedly members of a gang involved in stealing data from ATM cards of customers by using secret cameras and skimmers (a device used by fraudsters to steal credit/debit card information) at cash dispensing machines.

Using the stolen data, the gang members would prepare clones of ATM cards and used them to fraudulently withdraw money from bank accounts of customers, he said. The gang members used to visit India on tourist visas and stay in costly hotels, he added. PTI
