CHICAGO: A glittering evening of dazzling dance presentations, stirring melodious carols, inspiring remarks and uplifting yuletide sermon marked the Grand Christmas Banquet celebrations organized by United Christian Cultural Association [UCCA] on Saturday, December 5 at the Bristol Palace in Mount Prospects, Illinois that drew a large gathering of families and children to celebrate Christmas festival.
The evening celebrations set off with the lighting of the Christmas Candles by Indian Consul General Dr Ausaf Sayeed, the Guest Speaker Anil Kumar, Iftekhar Shareef, Ravi Achanta and Harish Kolasani. Teresa Neetipudi’s opened the evening with a classical invocation dance. It was followed by a colorful fusion dance presented by Kala Dance Academy group entitled ‘Silent Night”.
Dr Ausaf Sayeed, paid rich accolades to the Chicago Christian community and outlined the extraordinary contributions made by Christians in India especially in the field of education, healthcare, charity, social empowerment and emancipation of women and participation in public life. He added that Christianity has profoundly helped to strengthen the social fabric in India.
Keynote speaker Anil Kumar presented the central theme of Christmas message of salvation to all mankind through the birth of Jesus Christ. His message was interspersed with high-energy singing which led to the spontaneous break out of joyful dance from the floor. Anil Kumar narrated instances of his life transforming experiences which he said led him to Christian faith.
He urged the audience to introspect on their lives and make time for God.
Earlier, Keerthi Kumar Ravoori welcomed all and later joined by UCCA leaders honored the ambassador by presenting a silk shawl to him. A flower bouquet was presented by women leaders’ group. Proposing a vote of thanks, the UCCA President laid out the road map for future UCCA programs and initiatives.
Vasanth Charles, UCCA Director, unveiled the series of new exciting programs for 2016 including a cricket tournament. Shirley Kalvakota conducted the candle lighting ceremony and the singing segment.
The community Christmas greetings were offered by FIA Trustee Iftekhar Shareef.
The evening celebrations concluded with the entire hall glowing in shimmering candle lights held by each guest while singing “Silent Night” – a traditional Christmas carol. It was followed by the serving of festive dinner.
