Vadodara makes Nandana Sen nostalgic. Having shot for the film ‘Rang Rasiya’ at the Laxmi Vilas Palace in 2008, she says that shooting there remains one of her favorite memories in life, “It’s a really majestic palace and also, the museum here is a treasure trove of some great paintings by Raja Ravi Varma. I have always been a great admirer of Varma’s works and the kind of patronage that he got from the royal family here played a huge role in his growth. So, coming back to this city is always special.”
Talking about her role in the movie, Nandana says, “Playing the role of Sugandha, Ravi Varma’s muse, was challenging but it turned out to be a very beautiful experience as an artist. Having grown up in the US, I have missed out on several aspects related to our rich culture and heritage, like our epics and great art forms. It was as if those things had slipped away from me a little bit, and this role gave me the chance to delve deep into all that again. Doing a role like this also made me feel like the quintessential Indian woman, something that I have never felt in such a manner before.”
