CHICAGO: A veteran community leader and activist, Shankerprasad Someshwar Bhatt, breathed his last on Saturday, January 10 night at his residence in Hoffman Estates, a northwest suburb of Chicago.
Shankerprasad Bhatt lived his life serving the community and improving lives of others. Hailing from Gujarat, India, he worked at Officer Level in various municipal corporations in Gujarat including Bhavnagar, Morbi, Anand, Nadiad, Porbandar, Bharuch, Palanpur, Wakaner, Ankleshwar etc. His responsibilities covered implementation of projects for betterment of lives of the citizens with respect to air, water, food, schools, roads, transportation and security.
After retiring at end of 1980, he moved to USA to join other members of his family. He continued to serve the community in his adopted land as well by joining various organizations including Hindu University of America, Gita Society, World Association of Vedic Studies and Metropolitan Asian Family Services at Chicago
He is survived by six children, 13 grand children and one great grand child.
His cremation took place at Countryside Funeral & Crematory on 950 S Bartlett Road, Streamwood, in the presence of family members, relatives, friends and well wishers on Tuesday January 13. All prayed that his soul rest in peace.
