The FASTag was first introduced in 2014 as a part of a pilot project. Over the years, the ministry of road transport and highways has implemented and rolled out the system of FASTag at various toll plazas. However, on 14th October this year, the ministry declared the FASTag system as a unified electronic system to be followed across the country.

  1. How Does FASTag Function?

The FASTag is linked to a prepaid account that will be opened in your name, which you will need to recharge from time to time. This tag will be fixed to your windscreen, and every time you reach the toll, the system will deduct toll fee automatically using radio frequency identification technology.

  1. What Are the Ways to Get a FASTag?

You can get a FASTag for yourself either through one of the partner banks or from the toll plaza. Many banks have partnered with the National Highway Authority of India to provide you with a FASTag. One such trustable partner bank is Axis Bank, where you can create FASTag Axis bank login id for the first time, using which you will be able to recharge your tag each time. Also, you may not necessarily already have an account in the bank with which you open a prepaid account for FASTag.

However, if you plan to get the tag from the toll booth, then you will need to show your id proof, address proof, passport size picture along with your vehicle’s registration document.

  1. How to Create a FASTag account?
  • To create your FASTag account, you will have to go to the issuer’s website to fill an online form. The form requires you to fill details such as your name, address, vehicle’s registration number, and PAN card number.
  • You will then need to upload a soft copy of your ID proof, along with making a payment of Rs. 500 to submit your application.
  • Your FASTag will then be delivered to you within a week or a couple of days.
  1. What Will Happen If You Don’t have a FASTag Post 1st December?

If you don’t have a FASTag post the date declared by the ministry, you will be required to pay a double amount of toll fees. Moreover, you will also have to spend extra time at the toll as compared to others who have a FASTag.

  1. How to Recharge a FASTag?

You can recharge FASTag online through various modes such as net banking, credit card, debit card, NEFT, or RTGS. You will receive SMS alerts about your account balance on your registered mobile number. 

  1. Can You Get A Monthly Pass for FASTag?

Only a few specific toll plazas offer a monthly FASTag. For instance, you can use FASTag Axis Bank login and check the list of plazas that provide this option.
