PHAGWARA: Punjab Wrestling Association(PWA), headed by Padma Shree Kartar Singh, retired IG, has announced a 12-member  Punjab wrestling team (traditional style) of six different weight categories for taking part in the first two-day traditional style national wrestling championship being held at Pune on December 29 and 30, according to PR Sondhi, General Secretary PWA.
Following are team members:
57kg-Aman Kumar, Harvinder Singh; 65 kg-Harpreet Singh, Akash;74 kg-Vishal Singh,Dinesh; 86kg-Sahil, Varinder Singh; 97kg-Varinder Singh Gill, Mandeep Singh; 125kg-Gurpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh.
Vikram Sharma and Sukhmandir Singh will accompany team as coaches while Amar Pal Singh will be its manager, said Sondhi.
Sondhi, also a former national wrestling coach, said that it was being hosted by Maharahtra Wrestling Association but was being held under the aegis of National Wrestling Federation. It will be held on ‘mitti’ (earth) as per traditional Indian style, and not on mat as the modern style was held, he said.
