PHAGWARA: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has registered 1,107 corruption cases and arrested 1,146 accused between March 16, 2022, and August 31, 2026, as part of the state government’s stated zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
DGP Vigilance Sharad Satya Chauhan told This Correspondent on Sunday that the Bureau had intensified its crackdown on corruption and was pursuing cases against officials and other persons allegedly involved in corrupt practices. He said 301 vigilance enquiries were also registered during the period, while competent courts convicted 248 accused in 154 corruption cases.
Of the total arrests, 638 accused were arrested in 529 trap cases during the period under review. A further 492 accused were arrested in 546 criminal cases, while 16 persons were arrested in 32 disproportionate assets cases.
The Bureau also registered 118 vigilance enquiries relating to disproportionate assets cases, while another 183 vigilance enquiries were registered in other cases during the period from March 16, 2022, to August 31, 2026.
The figures released by the Vigilance Bureau cover the period from March 16, 2022, to August 31, 2026, and reflect the enforcement action taken in corruption-related cases during this period.
The Bureau said its anti-corruption drive would continue and that action would be taken against those found violating the law.
