CHICAGO: Tabla superstar Zakir Hussain returns to Chicago with his all-star Masters of Percussion ensemble for a unique performance on March 20 at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at 3 pm
Zakir Hussain is one of the founders of the World Music movement.
He has received two Grammy awards as well as collaborated with musicians such as Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead, George Harrison, Yo-Yo Ma, Van Morrison, Mark Morris, Rennie Harris and the Kodo drummers among many others.
He enjoys an illustrious career and is respected the world over for his talent and collaborations. The Masters of Percussion unites a diverse group of world-renowned musicians namely, Anantha Krishnan (Mridangam – double-headed South Indian drum), Sabir Khan (Sarangi – a stringed North Indian instrument played with a bow), Navin Sharma (Dholak – a double-ended pitched drum), Mannargudi Vasudevan (Tavil – a barrel shaped drum), and Seiichi Tanaka (Taiko – a Japanese drum).
