Aikotaan SoCal Association celebrates Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 in Aliso Viejo

ALISO VIEJO, CA:  Aikotaan SoCal Association hosted Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 on May 2 at the Aliso Niguel High School Auditorium in Aliso Viejo, bringing together more than 200 Southern California residents for a free evening of music, poetry, cultural reflection and community service.

The program celebrated two towering figures of South Asian literature and music: Asia’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature, Rabindranath Tagore, and Bangladesh’s national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam. Through songs, recitations, dance, instrumental presentations and thoughtful discussion, the evening highlighted the timeless relevance of their works and the shared cultural heritage that continues to connect communities across generations.

Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 (1)The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Head of Chancery Mr. Kulwant Singh from the Consulate General of India. The evening opened with a virtual address by Consul General of India Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, followed by a Shanti Path from the Upanishads presented by Amit Maharaj of Bharat Sevashram Sangha West.

A rich cultural program followed, featuring distinguished artists and community performers. The evening included vocal, instrumental, dance and devotional segments by artists and participants including Aikotaan Cultural Team, Pandit Suman Laha, Diotima Mallick, Tanuka Ganguly, Payel, Om and Modhoor Chatterjee, Jagjit Arora and Jasnoor Singh, among others. The program was anchored by Chaitali Mukherjee and Avik Mukherjee.

One of the major highlights of the evening was a panel discussion titled “Bridges of Words, Poetry and Songs.” The segment brought together Dr. Sukrit Mukherjee, Dr. Ratul Chatterjee, Dipankar Das and Jyotiska Ganguly, who reflected on the power of literature, music and poetry to build cultural understanding preserve memory and strengthen community identity. The discussion added a thoughtful dimension to the evening by connecting the artistic legacies of Tagore and Nazrul with contemporary diaspora experiences.

Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 (1)Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 also marked the launch of several new Aikotaan honors created to recognize distinguished Asian personalities for their contributions to culture, service, education, leadership and community impact.

The inaugural Bongo Bibhusan Samman 2026 was awarded to Dr. Kali Pradip Chaudhuri, a distinguished physician, philanthropist, entrepreneur and institution builder. Dr. Chaudhuri, founder and chairman of The KPC Group, is widely recognized for his work across healthcare, education, real estate, infrastructure and community development. An accomplished orthopedic surgeon and visionary leader, he has helped build institutions that connect medical service, education and enterprise across the United States and India. His life and work represent the spirit of global Bengali achievement, combining professional excellence with a commitment to public service and social impact. Dr. Chaudhuri was unable to attend the program in person; Dr. Sukrit Mukherjee accepted the award on his behalf from Hon. Head of Chancery Mr. Kulwant Singh.

The inaugural Sur Sadhana Samman was presented to renowned vocalist and cultural ambassador Mala Ganguly, founder of Surmala Music Academy, in recognition of her decades-long dedication to preserving and promoting Indian semi-classical and South Asian music. The inaugural Samaj Prerona Samman was awarded to Dr. Seema Choudhary, affectionately known as Dr. Seema Ji, honoring her contributions as an educator, entrepreneur, community builder and advocate for children and families in Orange County.

Beyond the performances and honors, the event carried a strong message of community responsibility. Aikotaan organized a community food drive in support of Orange County families, encouraging attendees to contribute non-perishable food items and reminding the audience that cultural celebration and service can go hand in hand.

Rabindra Nazrul Sandhya 2026 reaffirmed the enduring relevance of Tagore and Nazrul’s works while showcasing the strength, diversity and cultural vibrancy of the South Asian community in Southern California.

Aikotaan SoCal Association expressed gratitude to the artists, honorees, panelists, volunteers, community partners and attendees who made the evening successful and meaningful.
