Blanket drive as Bay Area braces for cold temps

IMG_3687-webSUNNYVALE, CA: On any given night, there are more than 200 homeless men, women and children in shelters and on the streets in Sunnyvale. As the winter cold settles in, Community Seva had its first Blanket Drive to help meet the needs of Sunnyvale’s homeless population. They distributed around 100 new blankets to those in needs at the Homeless Shelter on Sunday, December 8 from 7 pm to 8.30 p.m.

“This project is our first blanket drive that provides for the basic needs of the homeless in our area,” said Nathan Ganesan, Founder of Community Seva. “Whether they are staying in shelters or on the streets, our homeless individuals and families need a way to battle the winter weather. When we can meet these basic needs first, we can build relationships with those in need to offer further assistance.”

The Community Seva is a non-profit organization, which was founded in order to provide effective and empowering support to persons who are in need. Seva (a Sanskrit word), is service which is performed without any expectation of result or reward for the person performing it. The organization primarily focuses on feeding the homeless and underprivileged families by offering breakfast, lunch and dinner at local shelters like Family Housing Facility, EHC shelter, Sunnyvale Armory, Sacred Heart and other locations. Preparing brown bags with nutritious items and delivering them to the local church. This activity helps young kids of ages 6 to 12 participate in this community service event and learn about the need for such service.
