IMG_0811-webNEWARK, CA: With a title like that you expect nothing but laughs! And a laugh fest it was…all the way from dinner to midnight, at a small restaurant in Newark on a Friday evening! The Master of Ceremonies was the well spoken, Annie Akhtar, who kicked off the evening with a dinner, and the audience settled in for what was to come next…Comedy Hungama, 2014…a group of local and talented friends, who shared camaraderie on and off stage.

The opening act by Intequab Nazeer, a young comedian, who specialized in impersonating Bollywood film actors, portrayed movie scenes, depicting some well known names, such as Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Amrish Puri, and others. Vijay Singh, who followed next, had a range of entertaining and clever ideas, in addition to impersonating movie actors. He drew his material from everyday life and made fun of common situations, such as the chagrin of his thin friends, how people laugh and deal with life.

He delivered several quick repartees, mimicked the one liners of actors from old Hindi films that everyone remembers. Vijay presented several interesting ways to get the audience laughing, including singing! He also promoted the value of artists and their artistry as avenues to span cultures and bridge the gap. Singer Ranjeet Kaur, accompanied by Robin John on the keyboard provided the musical interlude.

Part of the program was sponsored by Shaista Ali’s “We are one” organization that promotes unity in diversity in Indian villages, helping small businesses with loans and educating children. With no shortage of entertainment in the Bay Area, it was interesting to see the crowd of about fifty odd people, including elders and children, come together to support their friends and local artists at a local venue.
