“Embarking on a 50-Mile Journey to Self-Discovery”

Marudgana (1)

Sitting in the comfort of my living room, I was suddenly transported back to a poignant story I encountered during the Maha Rudha Yagna in 2006. The tale revolved around an enigmatic energy form known as Marudgana.

In the realm of Hinduism, the Maruts (/məˈrʊts/; Sanskrit: मरुत) hold a distinct place. Often referred to as the Marutagana and occasionally associated with Rudras, these ethereal beings are revered as storm deities and hailed as the offspring of Rudra and Prisni. The count of Maruts varies, ranging from 27 to a staggering sixty (thrice sixty in RV 8.96.8). It is believed that these divine entities extend their guidance to those who embark upon a committed journey towards their aspirations.

Marudgana (2)My personal journey towards self-discovery was a meticulous one. I had trained myself by conquering shorter distances—26, 36, 22, and 23 miles—alongside completing two half-marathons, all leading to my ultimate goal of conquering fifty miles on my 67th birthday. Guided by the profound wisdom of my visionary grandfather, who had foreseen my path to the fulfillment of dreams since my birth, I felt both honored and empowered.

The path to this accomplishment demanded thorough preparation, both mental and strategic. With a determined spirit, I mapped out the route I intended to take and meticulously calculated the time required to complete this monumental feat. Originally aspiring to journey to my office in Cerritos with a friend, I gracefully adapted my plan when circumstances altered. I chose to stay within the vicinity of my home, strategizing to commence my walk at midnight, thereby granting myself a full 24 hours for this transformative endeavor.

As the clock struck midnight, I found myself fully prepared, mentally and physically, driven by unwavering enthusiasm. While the physical strain was anticipated, I carried an unshakable mental resolve that propelled me forward, vowing not to falter until the goal was achieved.

Amidst the tranquil ambrosia hours of the early morning, I embarked on my solitary expedition, accompanied solely by an ineffable universal energy. Words are inadequate to describe this guiding force that enveloped me, nurturing my progress through the serene pre-dawn moments. A confluence of determination and ethereal energy was my constant companion.

Throughout the journey, the camaraderie of loved ones served as an invaluable source of support. The dawn brought the embrace of friends and family—Mahesh and Dimple—who joined me on the path back from Newport Beach at 5 am. A restorative breakfast was shared with Kurt before heading towards Sunset Beach, where Dave accompanied me for a stretch to Seal Beach and back to Sunset Beach. The collective spirit persisted as Bharti joined at 11th Street in Huntington Beach, followed by the companionship of Mahesh, Dimple, Radhika, and Rohil for the final miles.

Upon reaching the milestone, a surge of elation washed over me—a blend of accomplishment and spiritual communion. Blisters adorned my feet, and physical fatigue was undeniable, yet an inexplicable energy pulsed through me. This experience was beyond words—an indescribable force that empowered me to conquer any endeavor I set my heart, mind, and soul upon. Gratitude overflowed for the incredible family and friends who stood steadfast by my side throughout this profound odyssey.

In completing fifty miles on my 67th birthday, I discovered a boundless well of strength within myself—an energy, much like Marudgana, that defies conventional explanation. This journey was a testament to the harmony between spiritual, mental, and physical dedication, and I stand truly blessed for the unwavering support of my cherished circle.”
