CHICAGO: Gandhi Memorial Trust has slated celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, on October 2 at the Gandhi statue site in Skokie, a north side suburb of Chicago.
Mayor George VanDusen has issued a proclamation to honor the legacy of the Mahatma and has blessed this event. Om Prakash Kamaria, chairman of the Trust, said, “Let us honor the man, who showed the world the path of non-violence, peace and tolerance with active participation in the celebration that will include singing of Gandhi Ji’s favorite bhajans and comments from people present.”
The statue is located at the Skokie Heritage Park in Skokie on McCormick Blvd between Dempster and Church on the east side of the blvd. Trustees of Gandhi Memorial Trust will facilitate the event from 10 am thru 11 am on October 2. “Every one is invited to pay tributes to Father of the Nation. Please bring flowers only. If it is not possible to be there during this time, one may also visit the statue at any time on October 2,” Kamaria added.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Prasad (a package of dry fruits) will be distributed.
