MAFS welcomes spring with Holi colors

MAFS HOLI3-webCAROL STREAM, IL: It was a great Holi bash at Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS) in Carol Stream, a northwest suburb where over 200 people flocked on March 26 to be part of a grand cultural program and entertainment marking the onset of Spring.
This Holi celebration of MAFS got more exciting when Michelle Mussman, the State Representative 56th District, decided to attend the event with her three children. Mussman is working hard in improving the lives of immigrant community with her various innovative policies. She is supporting the supplemental funding for home care programs that help senior citizens remain in their own home.
Mussman appreciated MAFS efforts in providing comfort to the seniors and immigrant community members with their various programs. She said that it is exciting to be part of this festival of colors. It infuses vibrancy and enthusiasm, bringing excitement at palpable extremes.
A Holi celebration at the center was started with the cultural program organized by MAFS Carol Stream’s cultural committee. Indra Patel, Adult Day Care client of Carol Stream spoke on the significance of the event.
Seniors performed dances in groups on famous Indian Bollywood songs. They also performed other cultural dance items that brought everlasting memories to one and all.
Mrs Santosh Kumar, Executive Director at MAFS thanked all for joining them in welcoming spring. She thanked Mussman for bringing much joy in the community with her presence.
She also thanked Naren Patel, CEO Medstar for sponsoring the event and thanked Nikunj Baxi and Beena Patel, MAFS Board members for attending the event
Patel, a front ranking community activist, praised Mrs Kumar for supporting immigrants and their cultures by celebrating various festivals with gusto.
Lastly, all in attendance applied colors on each other expressing their love and respect. And this is how Indians welcome spring!
Other MAFS locations that celebrated Holi were MAFS Vernon and Niles on March 27. MAFS Chicago location celebrated this festival of colors on March 28. Mrs Kumar spoke on the historical significance of the day. Seniors sang songs and applied colors on each other. Special Holi lunch was served to seniors and MAFS staff members at MAFS locations.
