PHAGWARA: Dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of the Sikh faith, the Punjab Kala Parishad September 4 organized a mesmerizing event based on “Nanakayan Mahankaava”, an epic written by noted Punjabi poet Mohan Singh.
The event, organized at the local KMV College Jalandhar, was inaugurated by Punjab Kala Parishad chairman and eminent litterateur Padam Shri Surjit Patar, who also interpreted the epic for the audience.

Sufi Singer Dev Dilbar regaled the audiences by giving his mellifluous voice for the epic, which was considered a masterpiece in the Punjabi poetry.
The word-by-word interpretation of the poem by world-famous Punjabi poet Surjit Patar ensured a better understanding of this literary masterpiece.
Speaking on the occasion, Patar said that the epic showcases the life and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev in an apt manner.

He said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction to be here amongst all the dignitaries for this mega event.
Patar said that such functions were a humble and befitting tribute to Guru Nanak Dev.
He said that Guru Nanak Dev was a true social reformer and a great spiritual ambassador who preached the gospels of love, compassion, mutual tolerance, universal brotherhood and oneness of mankind through his life and philosophy.

He further said that Guru Nanak Dev bitterly opposed the maladies of hypocrisy, falsehood, pretensions and caste-prejudices by envisioning a casteless society free from rituals and superstitions.
He said that Guru Nanak Dev made tireless efforts for bringing social equality through the concept of ‘Sangat and Pangat’ thereby eradicating the evil of casteism from the society.
Earlier, principal of KMV College Dr Atima Sharma Diwedi and noted journalist Dr Lakhwinder Singh Johal welcomed Patar at the college.
