NGO so far foots Rs 1.20 crore fee bill of 6,000 students

PHAGWARA: NGO Helping Hands Organisation(HHO),in cooperation with Punjab Radio London, organized April 16 its 10th project of ‘Akhan De Tarey’(Apples of the Eyes) for footing the annual fees bill of Rs 4.57 lakh of over 700 school students drawn from about 25 schools of this area, besides providing them school uniforms and stationary .

HHO’s founder Chairman Harminder Singh Basra said that NRIs Sukhbir Singh Sandhar, Managing Director of Wahid-Sandhar Sugars Limited, Phagwara, and Surjit Singh Ghuman, ManagingJASWANT SINGH GANDAM / RAMAN NEHRA India Post News Service Director of Punjab Radio London were the chief guests at the function.

District Congress president and Punjab Mahila Congress stalwart Balbir Rani Sodhi and ex-Chairman of Punjab SC/ST Commission Rajesh Bagha were the special guests.
Basra claimed that HHO had so far footed Rs1.20 crore fees bill of about 6,000 students of this area under its project ‘Akhan De Tarey’, aimed at enabling brilliant and needy students to have good education for measuring up to the challenges of life.

He said that non-resident Indians as well as locals extended a lot of financial help for the noble cause.
Besides Sandhar and Ghuman, other NRIs like Tek Chand Puni, president of the German unit of HHO, US-based Iqbal Singh Bala and Suresh Malhan extended a lot of help for the project, Basra said.

Basra thanked all these NRIs and local philanthropists, promising to carry on the noble cause of helping students in pursuing their studies.
NGO activists Malkiat Singh Ragbotra, Amandeep Kaur Basra, Harinder Kaur Sethi, Ballu Walia, Niranjan Singh Bilkhu,ad Vikas Thapar were also present on the occasion.
