Councilmember Rod Sinks, and Cupertino Planning Commission Chair Don Sun for a panel discussion on the critical relationship between the U.S., China, and India.

The conversation covered a wide range of topics including America’s manufacturing future, the need to invest in education, and working with other nations to lower our global carbon footprint, among many others.

Silicon Valley, which has a huge population of Indian and Chinese Americans, has a unique role in leading the national debate on what foreign and economic policy approaches America should take to create a more prosperous and peaceful 21st century.
“I am very encouraged by the forward-looking ideas that came out of our second U.S.-India-China panel discussion,” said Khanna.

“The Indian and Chinese communities here in the 17th district have made incredible contributions to our economy by creating jobs, fostering innovation and taking risks to start new companies. It is critical that these communities become increasingly active in the national debate on economic competiveness, education, and building a more responsive and technologically savvy government.”

A Bay Area resident for more than a decade, Ro returned home to Silicon Valley after spending two years in the Obama Administration, where he took a practical, hands-on approach to public service. As Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Ro regularly traveled around the country meeting with American manufacturers of all sizes to better understand their needs and the best ways for government to promote and support them.

In this role, Ro managed 108 domestic Commerce offices dedicatedto helping companies in the United States innovate and increase their exports to consumers around the world.

During his tenure at Commerce, Ro also broke new ground when he organized clean technology trade missions and supported the Green Embassy program, which allows American clean technology companies to showcase their products in U.S. embassies overseas.

Ro’s book on manufacturing, Entrepreneurial Nation: Why Manufacturing is Still Key to America’s Future, has won widespread praise for its strategies for keeping the best companies, jobs, and opportunities in America
