Second Corporate Games a big success

NEW DELHI: With over 550 participants from 41 Corporates, 45 volunteers and 20 persons from Special Olympics (intellectually challenged ) Corporate Games Second Edition saw corporate giants fighting it out on the field for winning medals for their respective organizations. The Games were challenging, exhilarating, enjoyable and exhausting for organizers but very enjoyable for players. In fact Delhi games have already become Pan India Games with participants coming from seven States and from East, West and Northern India.

Some of the very interesting results for the day were:

Hindustan Times won a fiercely fought competition out of 19 teams by beating Shangri-La Hotel Group virtually on the last few balls. They had to make 4 runs in the last three balls, which they did and won the Cricket Tournament of Corporate Games.

Chess tournament saw gold medal being won by Virender Singh of IRCTC; Silver by Vodafone’s Prem Jain and bronze by Sanjay Kr. Biswas of GRSE.

Cycling races Men & Women all categories were organized flawlessly by Corporate Games in collaboration with Cycling partner Firefox.

The cycling road races began at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at 9 am. Among Women, Capt Nivedita Bhasin who flies one of the biggest aircrafts Dreamliner of Air India, won gold after completing seven laps in 17 mins. Surbhi Mahajan from Reckitt Benckiser won Silver with 26 minutes.

For Men Nitish Bajaj from Reckitt won Gold in 18mins 44 sec (10 laps); Kapil from Nokia won silver with 23 min 25 sec and Balraj of IRCTC won bronze with a timing of 24 minutes and 7 seconds.

Athletics
Athletic races 400 meters, 800 meters and 1500 meters started at JNS at 10 am. In the 400m Open group category, Rohinton Mehta won Gold; Pushpinder from Railtel won Silver & Capt Krishan Sharma from Sirifort Sports Complex won bronze.

In 1500 meters gold winner was Samarjit Singh; Rajeev Bahl from SPML got silver; Hemant Yadav from Railtel got bronze.

In 800 meters Pawan Dhankar of LG won Gold; Pushpinder Kumar from Railtel won silver 7 and Vinod Singh of LG won bronze.

In 1500 meters 30-39 age category all winners were from IRCTC. Badri P Uniyal won Gold, Vijay Kumar got Silver and Sanjay Harbola got Bronze.
In 800 meters 50+ age category Gold was won by Mr. Rohinton Mehta from ITC and Capt Krishan Sharma from Sirifort Sports Complex won Silver.

In 800 meters Women Open saw Preeti Singh from Reckitt Benckiser winning gold; Sonal Singh from SAIL won Silver.

In 800 meters 40-49 years Women category Alda Dhingra from Prudent won Gold and Bharti Sharma from Prudent again won Silver.
In 800 meters 40-49 years Samarjit won Gold and Neeraj Painuly won Silver.

The Sports For Life trophy, which is given to the Corporate fielding maximum number of participants was awarded to Nokia. For Corporates winning maximum medals, division wise, the awards were given to Hindustan Times and Garden Reach Shipbuilders (GRSE) from Kolkata.

For the first time, Special Olympics students were integrated in the same competition with the Corporates.

The Awards function and closing ceremony grand finale also took place in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium where all the 600 athletes and sponsors were honored by Shri KP Singh Deo, who closed the Games.

The Third Edition of Corporate Games will take place from 21st November-24th November, 2013.
