Why Health Insurance Is Important for Asthma Patients?

Asthma

Sourabh Singh, a 42-year-old man, living a happy life with his wife and two children. His job never demanded anything excessive, as a result, he took care of himself and his family just perfectly. There was just one concern, Sourabh was suffering from asthma. He never really got a severe attack. It was just a minor breathing problem which wasn’t that frequent.

Life was running quite smoothly for him when all of a sudden, he had his first severe asthma attack.

Sourabh was on his way to a wedding and thankfully he was not the one who was driving. His wife rushed him to the nearest hospital where his treatment began. The doctors ran all the tests and for the next couple of weeks he was admitted to the hospital. Doctors told his wife that he had a narrow escape and gave him an asthma action plan to follow and asked Sourabh to take better care of himself.

His wife was relieved until she was asked to take care of the hospital expenses. She was so engrossed in her husband’s treatment that it never really occurred to her to check the piling bills of the test, medications and the treatment.

Sourabh had a decent income but they had limited savings as his wife was a homemaker. Sourabh didn’t opt for health insurance which would have been a saviour in such a situation. To pay the bills, his wife had to drain out all their savings which were supposed to be the college fund for their children.

Sourabh’s one ignorant mistake cost him all his savings. And there are many others like Sourabh who make a similar mistake.

Most of us have one or the other kind of an allergy. In this bacteria and pollution rich atmosphere, it is hard to stay completely disease free. There was a time when the environment was all green and clean our food was naturally healthy, not fertilizer rich. Why Health Insurance Is Important for Asthma Patients?

Remember when in our childhood we played in the dirt and still barely fell sick? And now if you travel on a two-wheeler, you would catch a cough or cold within minutes no matter how healthy you are.

It becomes even harder for Asthma patients. Environment and food play a major role in triggering asthma in many patients. Unfortunately, asthma is an expensive disease as one needs to visit doctors regularly, conduct tests and purchase medications whenever the asthma attack occurs. With this uncertain disease, one must have a financial safety net. To serve this purpose, many health insurance plans in India are available today, and it is highly recommended for asthma patients to buy one.

Following are the major reasons why you should opt for health insurance if you’re suffering from asthma:

  1. Financial Safety Net

Chronicle disease like asthma can be financially draining. The treatment is life-long,and there is no cure. Any time there’s an asthma trigger, you would need to be rushed to the nearest hospital where the doctor will treat you as per your asthma action plan.

This treatment would include several tests (as per your plan and severity of asthma) like Bronchial Provocation test, Pulmonary Function test, Bone Density Test, CT Scan, Bone Scan, Spirometry Diagnosis, Bronchoscopy, Chest X-ray, etc. These tests are expensive in nature and would be quite a big pinch in your savings.

A good health insurance plan would not only cover the expenses of these numerous tests but will also take care of the doctor’s consultation fee and the cost of medication. If you are not Bill Gates level rich, this is the saving which will matter a lot!

  1. Stress-Free Treatment and Recovery

When your financial matters are taken care of, it becomes quite a relief for your mental state. The disease already makes you go through the worst, and the financial stress on top becomes a cause of depression. This depression often hampers in the recovery process. We’re humans, and it’s impossible to cope with everything. A little help at times can be a big comfort in tough times. That’s what health insurance does; it becomes your friend in need.

Concluding.

Any disease can cause significant damage to your mental and financial health, let alone your physical health. It is wise to opt for a cushion, a safety net, called health insurance. These days, reputed insurers offer many health insurance plans in India. These plans are designed to take care of you and your family in the times of difficulty.

Long story short, better safe than sorry!
