CHICAGO: Hindi Lovers Club, a no-profit body set up three years ago to promote Hindi and Indian culture in this part of the world, held its monthly June meeting at Skokie Public Library on Monday June 24 with enthusiastic attendance by its members despite thunderstorm and rain.

The meet started with Jodh Singh Rawat giving a little update on the
situation in Uttarakhand and everyone observed a minute of silence to pray for the victims of this tragedy. Singh hails from Uttarakhand and is a community activist with propagating the message of Mahatma Gandhi and his non-violence philosophy.

Next was a former professor in Delhi, Sudaksa Kapoor. She gave a brief history of how America started observing ‘Fathers Day’. It was very interesting for members to understand the significance of this celebration. Two members and office bearers, Purmima Jha and Vinita Gulabani, recited poems relevant to Father’s Day.

The Chief Guest was Raghunandan Prasad Sharma, a visiting writer
From India with 168 Hindi books under his belt. He mesmerized everyone with his deep knowledge of Hindi and stories related to Bhagwan Ram.

The second Guest of Honor was nutritionist Manmohan Sharma who in his easy to understand style explained in plain language that fat plays a very big role in diabetes. He had model clays to make things understand very easily.
The evening ended with the song, “Tumhi ho mata, pita tumhi ho.”
